Over 120 Years of Football in Penmaenmawr

From the granite quarries of the early 1900s to the floodlights of the Ardal League, Penmaenmawr Phoenix FC has been the town's footballing heartbeat for more than a century.

Club Story

A History Worth Celebrating

1902

Penmaenmawr FC founded

Football first takes root in the town, with Penmaenmawr FC competing in local leagues in the shadow of the quarries.

1920s

Welsh National League & first silverware

The club joins the Welsh National League (North) and wins the Division Two West title in 1924–25, as well as the NWCFA Intermediate Cup — a trophy they wouldn't lift again for exactly 100 years.

1930s

Vale of Conwy dominance begins

Competing in the Vale of Conwy League, the club wins the Challenge Cup in 1936–37 and back-to-back league titles in 1938–39 and 1939–40 before football is suspended due to the war.

1973

Post-war revival

After decades of intermittent activity, the club re-establishes itself in the Vale of Conwy League, finishing as Section B runners-up in 1973–74.

1984–90

Reborn as Penmaenmawr Phoenix

The club rebrands as Penmaenmawr Phoenix FC and immediately makes its mark — finishing as runners-up four years running before winning the Vale of Conwy League title in 1989–90.

2000s

Community foundations laid

Focus shifts to building a community-first club. Junior teams are established, the clubhouse at Cae Sling is developed, and the Turnstyle Café opens its doors to the town.

Today

19 teams, one community

From Fun Football sessions and our Huddle provider application (with hopes to launch sessions soon) to men’s and women’s senior squads, Penmaenmawr Phoenix FC is the beating heart of football in Pen. Our PAN Disability team, the Phoenix All Stars, trains weekly with match days through the season. We’ve been selected as a UEFA U19 Euros training venue, will continue to grow our girls provision, and are investing in infrastructure through a five‑year club development plan to compete at the highest levels we can.
