Weekly Roundup — Week Ending 6 April 2026

It’s been a hugely busy week for Penmaenmawr Phoenix FC, with memorable trips for the junior section, tournament success over Easter weekend, big points for the first team and development side, and plenty happening off the field.

Junior section highlights start with two outstanding academy trips.

Premier League & Academy Visits

It was a very busy schedule for the junior setup with visits to Premier League clubs Manchester City and Everton.

  • U8s at Manchester City (Sunday): The boys visited the Etihad Campus and played three 7‑a‑side fixtures against Manchester City. An absolutely amazing experience and they did the club extremely proud.

  • Everton Finch Farm (Wednesday): Various age groups from U8s to U11s took part in sessions at Everton’s Finch Farm and even got to meet a few famous faces, including Everton first‑team players, Jonny Evans, and Tony Bellew. Another fantastic experience for the boys and coaches.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising these visits and fixtures.

Easter Weekend Tournaments

U8s — Mochdre Easter Tournament Champions

A brilliant tournament run from the U8s:

  • Rhuddlan — win 2–0
  • Llandudno Amateurs — win 5–0 (15‑minute game; hat‑trick from Kaylen Griffiths)
  • Brickfield — win 3–0 to secure top spot (George Shannon with an excellent performance)
  • Mochdre — narrow 0–1 loss in the final group game

In the final against a very strong Llangefni side, the boys dug deep, defended brilliantly, and created good chances. Elliot Hobson was outstanding at the back and Kaylen Griffiths scored the match‑winner. A superb save from Alby in goal late on sealed the victory, and the boys lifted the cup.

Boys U10s — Mochdre Tournament

Under 10s played at Mochdre and produced a great afternoon of football. The lads played some fantastic football and represented the club brilliantly. Special thanks to Lewis Wills and Harv Roberts for their assistance on the day — two young players from our Development team who show a real interest in coaching and were happy to help.

U11s — Tournament Progress

The U11s were minutes away from reaching the Europa Cup final. It was a strong effort and the coaches were very proud of their performance.

U11s Girls — Champions League Winners

The U11s girls were flawless at Mochdre. They won 4 out of 4 in the group stage, scoring 8 and conceding 0 to finish top of Group B.

In the Champions League final against hosts Mochdre, they delivered a stunning performance. Goals from Emmi and Mali earned a deserved 2–0 win.

Five games. Five wins. Five clean sheets.

U7s Girls — Weekend Fixtures

A goal‑filled morning for the U7s girls against Colwyn Bay Bombers. With nine players available, the teams agreed to 5×10‑minute periods. The first ten minutes were tough (5–0 down), but the response was excellent:

  • Lost the 2nd period 2–1
  • Drew the 3rd period 2–2
  • Lost the 4th period 2–0
  • Won the 5th period 2–0

The girls are trying to pass more and it’s a learning curve, but the long‑term benefits are clear. Player of the Match: Maddie Williams — tireless running, strong defending, and a lovely goal to top it off.

Boys U6s

U6s were away at Llandudno Amateurs at a very wet and windy Oval. We’ve been spoiled recently with decent weather and immaculate 3G pitches — we had neither today. The boys battled hard throughout but came away with a 5–3 loss. We conceded too early while playing into the wind and never fully recovered, but the effort and attitude were excellent.

POTM: Dewi Jones — defended brilliantly and scored two goals.
