Weekly Roundup — Week Ending 13 April 2026
It’s been another packed week across Penmaenmawr Phoenix FC, with academy trips, tournament football, and crucial points picked up by the senior sides. Here’s the full rundown — juniors first, then seniors, and what’s coming up next.
Junior Section
FAW North Pre‑Academi — Cardiff University Elite Girls Cup
Wednesday was a special day for two of our U11s girls. Emmi and Fliss represented FAW North Pre‑Academi in the Cardiff University Elite Girls Cup, taking on FAW South, Wolves, Leicester City, Plymouth and Swindon.
It was a fantastic experience for both girls. Emmi’s red side recorded one win and three draws in their eight games, while Fliss’s yellow team earned two draws. Playing in roasting heat and over 1 hour 45 minutes of football, both girls were outstanding and represented the club superbly.
Free Fun Football — Easter Session (Friday)
Friday’s Free Fun Football session was Easter‑themed, with relay races, chicken‑or‑hero, and a 4‑a‑side tournament to finish. Every player received an Easter egg to reward their effort and great skills, kindly donated by Ashley Daniels.
Bob Lloyd Tournament Weekend (Colwyn Bay)
U11s
The U11s played in their final Bob Lloyd tournament. Some performances were excellent, others just below our usual standard, but the effort was there. The group stage finished two wins, two draws and two losses, which wasn’t quite enough to reach the knock‑out rounds.
Proud of the group for how they stuck together.

U10s — Champions
U10s Bob Lloyd Champions
An outstanding tournament: played 9, scored 18, conceded 0.
POTM: Jacsen Roberts and Elijah Morgan — a relentless performance from both.
U7s
The U7s were superb in their first tournament. Only one defeat in the group (to eventual winners Penrhyn Bay) and just one goal conceded. A tough semi‑final vs Llandudno Amateurs Whites ended 2–2, with a narrow 2–1 loss on penalties.
Very proud of the lads — they did the club proud.

U7s Girls
An incredible effort from the U7s girls.
- Blues: four group games with a win, a draw and two losses — knocked out on goal difference.
- Yellows: a brilliant run to the final after four straight wins, including a derby win over the Pen U6s.
In the final, the girls led 2–0, but the Jets drew level. It went to a 1v1 contest and despite a huge effort, the girls fell just short.
An outstanding performance — a real credit to the club.
U6s
The U6s loved their first ever tournament and were proud to be part of a brilliant club day.
POTM: Erik Higham (overall) and Noah Williams for getting the team to the semi‑final with a key 1v1 win.
U8s
The U8s won nine games, conceding just two goals all day. A narrow 1–0 defeat in the final to Llandudno meant they finished runners‑up, but they played fantastic football throughout with brilliant passages of play.
League Action
U14s
U14s produced a dominant 8–0 win vs Llysfaen, with Cai Domney scoring a hat‑trick.
U13s
The U13s took on Conwy Borough FC Athletic. Charlie Keating recorded a hat‑trick of assists and Harry Whiteley scored four goals to earn POTM.
Senior Section
First Team — 1–1 vs Treaddur Bay (Wednesday)
A late equaliser rescued a crucial point at Cae Sling in front of 189 supporters.
Jay Sutton struck in the 95th minute after the Phoenix dominated long spells. Another reminder of the effort and belief running through this group.
Thank you once again for the outstanding support — it makes all the difference.
Man of the Match: Dean Wright — superb vocally and physically, with nobody getting past the centre half.
First Team — 1–1 at Llanrwst (Saturday)
Gwydir Park delivered every kind of weather — wind, rain, sun and even hail. The Penmen took the lead in the 37th minute when Jay Sutton won the ball with relentless pressure and found the bottom corner.
An early injury to Dani McIlvogue forced a change, but Phoenix held their lead into half‑time. The second half brought chances at both ends — Kyle Cooper rattled the crossbar after his introduction, while Jay Sutton was denied on the line.
Phoenix thought they had sealed it when Toby Jones beat two defenders and squared for a close‑range chance, but it stayed 1–0. Then, a late incident swung the match: Dan Evans was fouled, play continued, and Llanrwst equalised through Sam Thomas in the 91st minute.
It felt like two points dropped, but the point could be vital in the run‑in. The Penmen need three points from the final six games to secure Tier 3 status.
MOTM: Ricky Jones — outstanding in midfield, pressing, linking play and driving the tempo.
Development Team — Cup Final Bound
A home semi‑final vs Gaerwen saw the Development side book their place in the league cup final.
Phoenix started fast — Harrylee Birchall opened the scoring after being slipped through by Benn Lundstram. Gaerwen equalised, but a response followed as Morgan Roberts and a Benn Lundstram brace powered the Penmen to a 4–1 half‑time lead.
The second half saw three U16s enter the game — Noah Egan, Freddie Kewley, and Iwan Roberts on his senior debut — all of whom looked right at home. Noah then created the fifth with a perfect pass down the line for Morgan “Pidge” Roberts, who smashed in at the near post.
A late Gaerwen goal made it 5–2, but the job was done. The final is 10 May at Cae Rhosfain, against the winner of Holyhead Hotspur vs Mochdre.
Veterans — 4–2 win at Connah’s Quay
Phoenix Veterans came from 2–0 down to take all three points. A brace from Steve Roberts, plus goals from Dazzie Evans and Jamie Jones, completed the comeback.
MOTM: Jamie Jones.
