Weekly Roundup — Week Ending 20 April 2026
It was another full and memorable week across Penmaenmawr Phoenix FC, with strong junior representation, a proud cup final occasion, and a huge senior result that secured another season in Tier 3.
Junior Roundup
Girls and Women Backing Wales
Tuesday 14 April saw a brilliant club turnout as 42 players, coaches, and supporters from the ladies teams right down to the U7s girls made the trip to Wrexham to watch Wales Women. It was a fantastic evening for the club’s girls and women sections, with blue and yellow on show throughout the crowd.
There was even a lovely PPFC touch to the night, with one of our U13s girls making a pair of custom sunglasses that Wales international Ffion Morgan later featured on her own social media. It was a brilliant moment and another reminder of how much pride our girls take in representing the club.
U15s Reach the Cup Final
Sunday 19 April saw our U15s take on Conwy Wolfpack in the Under 15s Cup Final. Phoenix made a dream start when Jack Roberts unleashed a superb strike from 25 yards to put the lads 1-0 up and spark huge celebrations among the PPFC support.
The game demanded a huge amount physically and emotionally, and although the lads eventually ran out of steam as Conwy came back to win, the whole club is incredibly proud of the players and coaches for reaching the final. Cup final days are earned, not given, and this run was a testament to the work that goes in week after week behind the scenes.
Head of Development Ryan Neal said:
“The amount of blue and yellow shirts and the support from little old Pen was a real testament to what we’re building as a club, especially within our junior section, and these are exactly the occasions we want our teams to be part of and deserve to be in.
It was brilliant to see our other junior teams supporting along with so many senior players in attendance. That support goes both ways and reflects the connection we’re building right through the club.
Today’s experience will only make both the players and coaches stronger, and even more determined to go again and win silverware next time. Enjoy a well earned break now and come back ready to push even harder in pre season.
We’re extremely proud of you all.”
U8s
The U8s produced another excellent away performance with a 7-3 win at Conwy. They played with real energy, attacked well, and carried a threat throughout.
Player of the Week: Harry Williams.
U6 Boys
It was a warm one down at Cae Sling for the U6 boys against a good Colwyn Bay Jets side. The result did not go our way, but the boys kept going and, most importantly, all said they had a great time out there with their mates.
Player of the Week: Trystan Abrahams, who showed real bravery after taking a big hit from the ball and actually grew into the game afterwards.
U11 Girls
The U11 girls were involved in a superb game of football at Cae Sling as they welcomed a strong Brickfield side from the North East. It was a fiercely competitive contest, with both teams going toe to toe throughout.
Phoenix gave everything and looked right at home on the main pitch, but Brickfield managed to nick a breakaway goal in the dying seconds to take a 2-1 win. There was plenty to learn, but also plenty to be proud of from a very strong performance.
Player of the Week: Emmi Williams. In her coach’s words: immense.
U7s
The U7s delivered one of the performances of the morning at Cae Sling, running out 6-0 winners against Llandudno Amateurs Reds. Ollie Moran grabbed a hat-trick, Max Noon scored twice, and Jasper Hill also got on the scoresheet in an outstanding all-round team display.
There were excellent contributions from Owain Evans in goal and defence, while Jasper Thomas and Michael Rex-Purcell impressed in midfield. A top effort from the lads. No photos this time, but definitely a morning worth remembering.
U16 Boys
The U16 boys were beaten by Llandudno Junction Dragons. A frustrating one, but another chance to learn and respond together.
U13 Girls
The U13 girls made a bright start in their cup tie and deservedly went 1-0 up through Lottie Roberts, but eventually fell to CPD Merched Porthmadog Girls. It was a brave effort and another useful experience in cup football.
U13 Boys
The U13s secured a very good 2-1 win against Llanrwst at Cae Sling, with Charlie Keating scoring both goals to seal all three points.
Junior Pathway News
There was more good news for the girls section this week, with both Emmi and Fliss selected to play academy football next year. Emmi has successfully trialled for Caernarfon Town, while Fliss has successfully trialled for Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Both have been outstanding for Pen over the past few years, and their success is just reward for their hard work, attitude, and dedication. It will be a sad day when the final game comes around, especially for Emmi, who has worn the blue and yellow proudly for the past five years.
Senior Roundup
First Team Secure Tier 3 Safety
Penmaenmawr Phoenix first team secured another season in Tier 3 with a big 4-2 win against St Asaph at Cae Sling.
The hosts flew out of the blocks and were in front inside the opening two minutes when Adam Hold struck to make it 1-0. St Asaph responded well and Josh Roberts levelled with an outstanding effort, but Phoenix regained the lead when Toby Jones provided the first of his three assists for Anthony Marshall, who finished well to make it 2-1.
St Asaph hit back again through Josh Roberts on 26 minutes, sending the sides in level at 2-2, but Phoenix stayed on the front foot. HarryLee Birchall came on for Ryan Vaughan at half-time to add fresh attacking energy, and the pressure eventually told when another excellent Toby Jones delivery was met by a bullet header from Anthony Marshall for 3-2.
Credit to St Asaph as well, who showed real faith in their pathway by introducing a number of 16-year-olds for first-team debuts. Phoenix then added experience in the closing stages through Dazzie Evans and Liam Griffiths, and the result was sealed on 84 minutes when Toby Jones again delivered with precision and Anthony Marshall completed his hat-trick with another header to make it 4-2.
It was a massive afternoon for the Penmen, who now know they will be playing Tier 3 football again next season. With four games still to play, there is still more to come, starting with Llay Welfare at home on 25 April.
Development Side Keep Title Push Alive
The Development side kept their title hopes alive with a fine 4-1 win. Harrylee Birchall helped himself to a brace and now sits on 26 league goals in 17 league games for the young Penmen.
Goals from skipper Allen Padua and the ever-reliable Meilir Evans completed the scoring, but one of the standout talking points was again the strength of the pathway into senior football. Full-back Noah Egan made his first senior debut start, while fellow 16-year-olds Casper Rudkin and Freddie Kewley continued their involvement with the side.
It was another strong afternoon for a group that continues to show the future of the club is in very good hands.
